Hier an der Küste von N…, während dieser Stunde des Morgens, brauchte ich niemanden. Die blosse Präsenz der Möwen störte mich: ich vertrieb sie mit Steinen. Und fiel dann in ihr seltsames Rufen mit ein, in die Richtung gewandt, aus welcher ich gekommen war.

Here on the coast of N…, at this hour of the morning, I did not need anybody.
The mere presence of the seagulls disturbed me:
I drove them away with stones.
And then joined in with their strange cry, facing the direction from which I had come.
